The team did a complete player experience overhaul for Industry in 2014. Industry is one of the pillar features of EVE Online that drives the perpetual machine of creating and destroying ships and assets in the EVE Universe. To understand how we could improve the overall player experience of doing industry, we had to investigate how players used it currently and get to the root of the issues they were having with it through different use-cases and examples. We then looked at how it was initially intended to work and set specific goals for how we would take that initial idea and make it better by focusing on a few key elements.
Primary Goals
Discoverability of the feature is key
Consistency across all Industry activities
Interactions should be efficient and meaningful
Allow players to learn by doing through clear feedback
Make information readable and enjoyable using graphical representation
